Whole Wheat Soda Bread Loaf

When I tried my hands on Rustic Herbed Soda Bread, I thought of trying a loaf with it as well. Soda bread is a real quick bread, only time taken to make it, is the time taken to bake it😊

Though it is not as light and airy as a Yeast Bread but when you are short of time or you can not have yeast then this is the next best option available.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups milk( or use 1/2 cup curd and 1&1/2 cup milk)
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • 2 tsp soda
  • A tsp dried thyme(optional)
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter

Process:

  • First of all mix milk and vinegar together and keep aside this will convert the milk into buttermilk. Or if you are using curd and milk mix and keep asideIMG20170529131818
  • Switch on the oven for pre heating at 180 degrees
  • Prepare a bread tin by greasing itIMG20170530211215
  • Take all the dry ingredients – flour, salt, sugar, thyme and sieve them together. Mix them well in a bowl and make a well in betweenIMG20170530210407
  • Add the buttermilk in the well, start mixingIMG20170530210456
  • Combine everything and knead very little. You can use some water if you feel the need while kneading the dough
  • Add oil and knead the dough very little just to combine the oilIMG20170530210902
  • Now give the dough the shape of a loaf and keep it in the prepared tinIMG20170530211130
  • Mark a cut in the loaf and brush some milk over itIMG20170530211345
  • Now bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 30-35 minutes or till you get a golden crust on topIMG20170530214347
  • Cool completely for at least an hour and then slice with a serrated knifeIMG20170531073448

Isn’t it really quick😊 enjoy it with your favorite jam or butter exactly the same way as you have your regular bread😊 we had it for breakfast this morning with my homemade All Natural Apple and Plum Jam😋
