Churros Ice Cream Cups

Churros is a famous Spanish choux pastry that is generally taken with hot chocolate in breakfast. While we often enjoy it for our evening snacks 😉 Recently, I saw an article on internet about Churros Ice Cream cups and thought of giving it a try with my home-made Mocha Brownie Ice Cream. I really enjoyed making them, they came out nice golden and crispy out of my oven.

And of course Me being Me, had to make it with whole wheat flour only 😉 but this time took some liberty and added some cornflour for a lighter texture. They came out crispy and little chewy and perfect for holding my home-made ice creams 😃

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/4 cup corn flour
  • A pinch of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 & 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Oil for greasing
  • 3-4 Tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp powdered cinnamon

Process:

  • Heat water, butter, sugar and salt till it comes to a boilIMG20170615201746
  • Meanwhile, sieve together flours and baking sodaIMG20170615202242
  • And mix vinegar to milk and keep aside for a few minutes, it will curdle and become butter milk IMG20170615202008
  • Now to the boiled butter, sugar and water mixture add the sieved flours and switch off the flame. Mix rigorously till it becomes a dough like ball

  • Add buttermilk and make it come together like a soft smooth pipe-able consistency dough, let it cool slightlyIMG20170615202517
  • Switch on the oven for preheating at 200 degrees
  • Fill the dough in a piping bag with star nozzle and Grease your Muffin tray from back side with little oil

  • Now pipe the dough around the muffin cups to cover completelyIMG20170615204820
  • Now you have two options either to bake or deep fry, for deep-frying you need to freeze after piping for at least an hour so that they retain their shape while being fried
  • Or to make it healthier which is my choice  of course 😉you can directly bake them in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 20-25 minutes or till they are nice golden in colorIMG20170615211622
  • Release the cups from muffins tray  on cooling slightly
  • And mix the powdered sugar and cinnamon and roll the freshly baked cups into this cinnamon sugar

  • Serveyourfavorite ice cream in them and enjoy😊IMG20170615215303

The fried ones will have a crispy layer outside and soft inside, while the baked ones are just like ice cream cones crisp and chewy. I loved the fact that all was home-made and much healthier 😃
